Dr.Laxman Govind Jonwal holistic treatment.

Rainy Season is the month of holistic treatment.

Rainy Season is the month for people who are fed up of allopathy and want a holistic treatment for the unholy lifestyles they led in modern times. This is what 44 year old,Dr.Laxman Govind Jonwal suggests,"According to Ayurveda and the ancient pratice of Kerala Panchakarma, this rainy season is the month of Varsa Ritu, which is considered good for Basti Karma, that is ,the treatment of Vata or neuromuscular diseases of human body,''said Dr Jonwal,at the Nirmaya Day Care Centre in Mahavir nager at Kandivli (west).

Here is the short interview taken by Rajendra Ganotra

Q) Please tell us something about you?
A) I treat the patient in the holistic way.I have been practising for the last 14 years, did M.D in Ayurveda from Podar Medical College in Worli, but the the true roots of my passion for the ancient form of Indian medicine, laid by my grandfather's skills who was an Ayurvedic expert.Early on my childhood,I was influenced by Ayurveda, which I now practise as a worship towards the knowledge of the seers and understood the human body and mind in its true form.

Q) What is Nadipareksha ?
A) With Nadipareksha, being the base of Ayurveda, the 5000 years-old treatment insists on purification and detoxification therapy, which gives a long healthy life and prevents all degenerative chronic diseases.Ayurvedic treatment involves establishing an individual's mind-body constitution and nature of imbalance initially and then seeking to return to a state of healthy balance. The treatment consists of the use of herbal remedies, special Ayurvedic massage therapies, dietary, lifestyle advice and other aspects of treatment, tailor made for that individual.

Q) How much time periods is taken for the patient?
A) The time period for the Ayurvedic treatments are guidelines it might take for a session. The exact time differ depending on the needs of the client and a good Ayurvedic physician will design the treatment around the client. Therefore the treatment will defer in terms of time, intensity and oils used,in order to meet the clients specific requirements.

Q) What are advantages of Abhyanga (An Ayurvedic whole body massage)
A) It increases tissue strenght, improves blood circulation, rejuvenates the whole body, removes cellulite, beautifies the skin, anti aging, helps sleep better, promotes vitality, reduces vata imbalance, stress and toxins.Abyangam can increase the production of white blood corpuscles and antibodies, which provide more resistance against viruses and diseases. This helps the defence mechanism in the body and increases immunity towards environmental changes. In this way this abyangam massage is a protector, perserver and a rejuvenator, increasing self-confidence and will power. To massage means is to exercise the nervous system.

Q) What is Shirodhara and it's benefits?
A) Shirdhara is the best treatment for body and mind in this rainy season. To begin with, some oil suited to the patient's dosha condition is applied on the crown. This is a prerequisite in almost all oil treatments.A headband(vartti) is tied just above the ear level to prevent oil from flowing into the eyes. The patient is then made to lie on his back on the droni with the head rested properly. The position of the head should be such that the steam from the vessel falls at the centre of the forehead. The therapist then fills the vessel. When the oil that trickles down the wick starts to fall on the patient's forehead, the therapist moves the vessal to and fro gently to ensure that the oil covers the entire region between the temples which he gently massages the area with his other hand. The duration of a dhara is usually between 30 to 50 minutes. This treatment is indicated for insanity, severe illnesses due to disorder of vata, chronis cold, sinusitis, diseases of the eyes, ears and so on.
This results in a fantastic sense of deep relaxation and inner peace, highly effective in removing mental stress and anxieties,in treating insomnia and headaches and improves memory.
The benefits are many and you will be out of many diseases like Depression,Diabetic,Insomnia,Paralysis,Stress,Epilepsy etc

Q) What is Panchakarma Chikitsa?
A) This term means five actions in Sanskrit,Pancha meaning five and Karma meaning action. It is referred to as five stages of healing and is used as a procedure to excrete waste. It involves five purifying procedures that are an essential part of Shodana Chikitsa or treatment. They are Vaman (induced emesis),Virechan (induced purgation),Basti (medicated enemas),Nasya (nasal cleaning) and Raktamokshan (blood purification).Basti heals the neurological and obesity problems,Virechan purify the vascular system and skin ailments,Vaman cures asthma and allergy and Nasya checks migrane, cervical spondilosis and facial paralysis.

Q) In Ayurveda, how many doshas (medical humours) are there?
A) In ayurveda there are 3 main doshas, which are Vata (resembles the classical element air).Pitta (fire) and Kapha ( water). All bodily prcesses are believed to be governed by a balance of the 3 doshas.Whichever dosha appears to dominate a person's behavior and physique is called his constitution type. Each constitution type has particular strengths and susceptibilities.
In summary,Ayurveda represents a system that considers both the states of mind and body in its diagnosis and treatment.Ayurveda took into consideration the fact that many illnesses are caused by foreign agents ans small organisms that may require intervention.Patients are classified by body types,or prakriti, which are determined by proportions of the three doshas,Illness and disease are considered to be a matter of imbalance in the doshas.Treatment is aimed at restoring harmony or balance to the mind and body system. Thus according to the Ayurveda each individual is a combination of the three doshas of Vata,Pitta and Kapha or one of these doshas.

A face Lift ( technically known as Rhytidectomy) can’t stop this aging process. Aerobics and Dance (In the Rain)

Aerobics exercise is an activity that uses large muscles groups, can be maintained continuously for a long period of time and is rhythmic in nature.Aerobic exercises train the heart, lungs and theMeet Krrish Baba ,who is famed aerobics instructor. Some of the celebrities trained by him are Anamika,Rajiv Anand,Sonu etc. Here is the exclusive interview taken by Rajendra Ganotra and Vijay Shanker.

Q) Which is the best season for aerobics exercise?
A) Exercise has to be done throughout the year. But,during rainy season,it is advisable to do .There is a lot of changes in climate after summer season. Suddenly you are arrived in such a cool climate. You got relife from sweating and moisture.During rainy season you can more concentrate on your body and diet. You are having such a good time to do aerobics during this season.

Q)What is aerobics?
A) Aerobics is a particular form of exercise.Aerobics classes generally involve rapid patterns performed to music with cues provided by an instructor. The literal meaning of aerobics is with oxygen i.e. aerobics helps us to use oxygen more and more efficiently by conditioning the heart and lungs. This helps in the reduction of stress and weight control.Aerobics exercises have a wide range of benefits such as they encourage cardiovascular and muscular fitness and increase flexibility.Aerobic workouts are great for building a stronger heart and leaner body, lowering cholesterol and improving sleep patterns.

Q) Krrish,What is this aerobics exercises?
A) The word aerobics means with oxygen or in the presence of o cardivascular system to process and deliver oxygen more quickly and efficiently to every part of the body.

As the heart muscle become stronger and more efficient, a larger amount of blood can be pumped with each stroke.Fewer strokes are then required to rapidly transport oxygen to all parts of the body.An aerobically fit individual can work longer, more recovery at the end of an aerobics session.

Q) Baba, What is muscles training?
A) Muscle training is an intergral part of any programme. After muscle trainingour bodies continue to burn fat for many hours.A combination of aerobics, muscle training,a proper diet and stretching is an excellent programme for getting fit and staying healthy in this rainy season.

Q) What is Aqua aerobics?
A) Aqua aerobics is the performance of aerobic exercise in water such as a swimming pool or in the rain.In some area it is known as Aqua Fit.

Q) What are the benefits of Aqua aerobics?
A) There are many benefits of aerobics in the water.Water related exercises increase your cardiovascular fitness as well as improving overall stregth. Also,as the water provides support for the body, the risk of muscle or joint injury in aquatic sports is greatly reduced.A great advantage in aqua-aerobics is as it is usually performed in water, both swimmers and non-swimmers can participate.

Q) What are the advantages and dis-advantages of Aqua-aerobics?
A) The advantages are water provides sufficient support for your body. This greatly reduces for your body. This greatly reduces the risk of any bone, joint or muscle injuries.
It can improve flexibility without causing excess pressure on joints.Exercise in water can be much more comfortable than exercise based on land.his is because during the workout, water continually cools the body and you don’t feel the effect of sweat.
The only dis-advantage is that it requires access to a pool and so can be done in swimming pool .The cost of these programmes may vary. You don’t burn as many calories as you would in a form of weight-bearing exercise,as the water in a form supports most of your body’s weight..

Q) How can aqua aerobics reduce stress?
A) Most sports will usually help reduce stress, regardless of whether they are aquatic sports or not. This is the case mainly because when you are doing any particular sport you tend to focus on what you are doing rather than whatever is causing you the stress. Also, the rhythmic movements which are used in aerobics can have a positive effect on physical as well as mental well-being and this in turn affect your overall outlook on life.

Q) What are the advantage of being an aerobic instructor and dancer together?
A) The combination of both aerobic and dance is like you are ruling the state with majority and no dependence for other minority group. The rhythmic movements which are used in aerobics can have a good effect on your whole body.

Salsa part 2

SALSA INDIA
Kaytee is the Founder and President of Salsa India.. He has trained as a Jazz and Hip Hop dancer.During a stay in Japan, he met a leading Salsa teacher from Los Angeles. After his return to India,he set up a small dancing school which has grown into Salsa India Dance Company (SIDC), the biggest SALSA – only school in India.

Kaytee has studied with some of the best teachers of the world and is now a certified teacher by Salsa Brava, arguably the best dancing school in the world . He has had the opportunity to learn the Cuban,New York and L.A styles of Salsa and see different other styles of Salsa and likes to merge all of it in his way of Dancing. He says “Different Music, Different Styles “. Kaytee works hard on his dancing and teaching skills. Besides his interest in Salsa, he also harbours an active interest in photography and is an excellent photographer. He is also father of two wonderful dogs (Mambo and Junior)

Q) Please, tell us something about Salsa ?
A) Salsa is similar to Mambo in that both have a pattern of six steps danced over eight counts of music. The dances share many of the same moves. In Salsa, turns have become an important feature , So the overall look and feel are quite different form those of Mambo. Mambo moves generally forward and backward, whereas, Salsa has of a side to side feel.

Then, as a tree, Salsa has many roots and many branches, but one trunk that unites us all. The important thing is that Salsa is played throughout the Hispanic world and has received influences of many places within. Each dancer is accustomed to dance his or her style.

Q) What is Mambo dance?
A) The Mambo dance is originated in Cuba where there were substantial settlements of Haitians. In the back country of Haiti, the “Mambo” is a voodoo priestess, who serves the villagers as a counselor, healer, exorcist, soothsayer, spirirtual advisor, and organizer of public entertainment. However, there is not a folk dance in Haiti called the “Mambo.”

A modified version of the “Mambo” (the orginal dance had to be toned down due to the violent acrobatics) was presented to the public at dance studios, resort hotels, and at night-clubs in New York and Miami. Success was on the agenda, Mambo happy dancers soon became known affectionately as “Mambonicks”.

The Mambo is enjoying a renewed popularity due to a number of films featuring the dance as well as a man named Eddie Torres. Eddie is a New York dance pro and Mambo fanatic who has launched a crusade to make sure the dance reigns in the ballroom once again. Torres has become the leading exportant of the style, steadily building a reputation as a dancer, instructor, and choreographer. He has become known as the ‘Mambo King of Latin Dance”. Torres is determined to reintroduced dancers to what he believes is the authentic night- club style of mambo dancing, which in the 1990”s is increasing Known as Salsa.

Most people treat Mambo as a very fast dance. The Mambo craze did not last long and today the Mambo is much limited to advanced dancers. Teachers agreed that this is one of the most difficult of dances. One of the greastest contributions of the Mambo is that it led to the development of the Cha-Cha.

Q) What is Samba dance?
A) Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world and is the birth place of the Samba. Much of the music in the heavily populated coastal areas shows a remarkable combination of African,Native Indian and Iberian influences.

Modern Samba was developed from an earlier Brazilan muscical style called choro. Both samba the dance and music can take many forms, from the vivacious call response of samba de enredo-cancon or song samba, a move relaxed guitar and rhythm variant Bossa Nova, which transalates to New Wave, hit American big time in the sixties with “ The Girl from Ipanema”. This song by the legendary Jobin became a classical in Jazz and elevator music.

The Ballroom samba, while maintaining elements of what the Brazilians consider the true samba, was formulised in 1956 by Pierre Lavalle. Since then, various forms of samba have been developed to fit the mood of modern music.

Q) Tell us something about Angie who is promoter of Salsa in the international salsa community?
A) More often referred to as Angie than her given name Anjali, she was born to an Indian father and an Italian Mother, with the heart of a Salsera. Although Angie has been dancing various forms of Indian dances since childhood and later moving to Latin ballroom, Jazz , Hip hop,her true calling is “Salsa”.

Because of her job, Angie is constantly travelling to different parts of the world every week giving her the opportunity to dance and learn from the best teachers in the world like Salsa Brava. Angie is now a certified teacher by Edie- the salsa freak and Al Liquid Espinoza. Representing India, she won the Salsa Shines competition in 2003 in Hong Kong.

HOMEOPATHY FOR YOU

Like Ayurveda, Homeopathy too does not have any side effects, hence this is one the reasons of its increasing popularity. In order to realize the significance of Homeopathy today with relevance to various diseases, VIJAY SHANKER and RAJENDRA GANOTRA interviews noted Homeopath Dr Sunil Mehra ,who has been successfully functioning for almost two decades and treats patients with personal care which is rarity these days.

What is Homeopathy and what is the procedure for treatments?
“Homeopathy is science which is based on principles, in other words similia similibus curanter. The principles are applied and that is how the patient is treated. If a person has certain symptoms, then the drug is prescribed according to the symptoms. If another person is having the similar symptoms, then the same medicine can be given to him and he will be cured permanently. The disease may be the same but there may be different symptoms, then the patient will be treated accordingly”

Normally it is believed that Homeopathy aggravates the disease and then cures it, please elaborate?
“The disease normally aggravates which is quite scary for the patient, particularly in the case of skin diseases. It again depends on how the patient is treated. For instance if I want to cover the light of this tubelight completely I have to take a heavy blanket to cover it but I can do it slowly by exposing little light and going step by step. I cover little light in one step and repeat it again and again so as to eliminate the complete light. Similarly in the case of any disease we have to have a complete case study of the person which is done whenever a patient comes to me for the first time”

What is the significance of a case study?
“The case study is very important and goes on for hours together. We have to take into account as to whether the disease is hereditary or genetic, the family history with relation to the particular person, the diet and the normal working condition . Every thing has to be taken into account, if something is not revealed than the treatment may vary. Moreover I take a personal interest in all my patients and that makes a big difference. If they do not turn up I call them up and ask them what is the problem. If my patients are happy am happy”.

How is Homeopathy different from Ayurveda?
“Ayurveda is the science of nature as they the medicines are derived from medicinal plants and herbs, it is the extracts which is consumed directly by the patient and is mostly bitter in taste. Homeopathy too derives medicine from nature but it is potentisation or diluted. Medicines are diluted with water, alcohol or goats milk and often sweet in taste. Ayurveda goes to the root causes of the disease and Homeopathy first treats the causes, then ultimately will reach the root. Both have no side effects but are time consuming”

Can a patient suffering from cancer or AIDS be treated?
“Yes Homeopathy has medicines for everything. In chronic cases the patient may not be cured completely but the patient can have have a longer life span and death will be peaceful without much suffering”.

How is Homeopathy different from Allopathy?
‘It is completely different. Allopathy acts fast unlike Homeopathy. In Allopathy medicines are selected according to the symptoms but the treatment is not symptomatic. Allopathy treats according to the diagnosis of the cases and the result is symptomatic. The reason being Homeopathic prescriptions are on symptoms which are the manifestations of the cause of the disease and the prescription is not just for relieving the symptoms. All systems of medicines are beneficial to mankind or animals but the proper diasgnos is of vital importance”.

Can a patient have both Homeopathy and Allopathy together?
“Normally it is advisable not to have both as both systems of medicine are completely different but in certain cases patients can have both but one has to be careful about the dosage and the time intervals between the medicines or it might result in complications”.

Do you prescribe Allopathy medicines too?
“In some cases but again it is necessary for a doctor to have knowledge of different streams of medicines before he prescribes them. As in the case of Allopathy there are certain advantages and disadvantages and a doctor is a person who should know how to derive the best from each system.”

Besides medicines, what would you prescribe for healthy life?
“Positive attitude in life, exercises. Right diet and lot of fruits and preferably Vegetarian meals”.

Salsa Dance creating Waves

ABOUT SALSA INDIA DANCE COMPANY

With an endeavor to add Salsa in the life of all dance enthusiasts ,Salsa India Dance Company was first established in April 2000.Its pioneer has since then put his mind and soul in gradually creating not just a dance school but an entertainment destination, where people of diversified backgrounds come together and simply have a good time.

With a total of 11 studios currently, Salsa India Dance Company now buzzes with over 500 enthusiastic students from Delhi and Mumbai alone. The school has also helped to popularize this Latin dance form in other metropolitan cities like Mumbai,Pune,Punjab,Bangalore,Sikkim and Indore and also has reached enthusiasts outside India in Nepal,Hong Kong and Thailand through a number of salsa workshops.

They, at Salsa India Dance Company promote Salsa as a way of life and as expression of passion and commitment. Therefore they do not teach Salsa, but they have created an experiential platform, where the idea is also to communicate, interact, share and unwind with each other. They foster creative thinking; decision- making and a learning process that helps develop growth in each individual.

Their main goal is to strive for excellence in everything. They do including maintaining the satisfaction of their students. They have a structured format of learning, with emphasis both on technique and styling. The format is engineered in a way that it assits anyone and everyone to learn techniques of Salsa accurately while encouraging the students to achieve the increasing levels of complexity. Besides this, they also insist on the theoretical knowledge of the dance form.

They have open doors to men and women alike without regard to ethnic origin or dance experience. They are dedicated to teaching Salsa and other Latin Dance forms in the right and most efficient way possible. So it really does not matter if you have the flair and the grace, or if yoy are with android- like movements and clumsy attributes. Whether, its two left feet that you have or two rights, just join and they will get you dance in no time. They welcome new members to their society through out the year.

Each lesson is complete, in that you will be able to pratice what you have just learned without the help of the teacher to come by at the end of the session. Even after just one lesson, you will have a good idea of what Salsa is and technique and each transition into the next level is attended to in a smooth and effortless manner. Occasionally they do try to throw in a few surprises, just to keep you on your toes.

They also have a culture of partner swapping in the Salsa movements as they find that this stimulates the process of learning and make it more interesting , resulting in greater improvement. Their instructures are professionally trained dancers from the Cuban and the LA styles of Salsa that are popular all around the world. This unique and beautiful style is being introduced for the first time in India at Salsa India Dance Company. Since Salsa is, in essence, a dance about people, they would like to reflect that by encouraging their members to dance with as many people as possible.

Dancing great means looking great. A skilled dancer executing a simple move, looks better, feels better and has more fun then a dancer with bad form attempting something complex. Therefore, in their classes, they put a great deal of emphasis on proper form and execution of each movements. The each and every student learn the techniques of proper hip movement, use of the knees and proper posture. Men learn how to lead a lady with skill and confidence, ladies learn how to anticipate their’s partner’s next move to make their job easier. But this hard work really pays off on the dance floor as their students find out at the highly popular Salsa-India parties. Dancers from elsewhere joining them for the first time are encourage to start from the lowest level to get used to the way they teach.

Here is what you can expect to cover in classes-

Style- It is sophisticated, suave, sexy and energetic. They lean towards giving a good forms of Latin Dance as you move into Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Warm up- They always start the class with a warm up. This includes basic footwork that you will need for the rest of the class. Kim Sharma and Shambhavana Seth got down from the buildings to the center located in their area to fill up their forms and were very enthusiastic.

At the same center comedy artist Raju Shrivastav and Ahsaan Qureshi joined the drive.

Arrangements done by Sanjay Nirupam-

To start with around 50 centers have been arranged where Nirupam's Representatives will be seated with the forms and anybody in the area can visit these centers and enroll themselves.

The centers are located in areas easily accessible to people like Mega mall, Yari Road, 7 Bungalows, Lokhandwala covering area from Juhu to Goregoan.

After printing around 1,00,000 forms for these centers he also has plans to distribute them in the buildings in the same area via the Chairman/ Secretary of the buildings.

To further make the process easier for citizens, if citizens do not have passport size photographs, Photographers have also been arranged to get instant photos clicked.

'Creative Expressions' by Leading Artists..!

At ArtDesh the Studio, Tardeo, Mumbai on 20Nov 2008 Mr Pritish Nandi inaugurated Creative Expressions, a series of paintings by 10 artists from different regions of India. This group was formed by two very senior artists Mr Dhiren Sasmal (Kolkata) and Mrs Chandana Khan (Hyderabad) around five years back. They have been doing shows all over India, sometimes interchanging the members keeping the core group intact. Hence this group show has included three artists from Mumbai Debjani Datta, Ananya Banerjee and Nirmala Pillai.

Dhiren Sasmal feels" The young talents from different parts of the country need to be encouraged and given the scope to express their creativity. We have plans to introduce Art Camps, where we will invite different artists and then it will be easier for us to choose them and their work too for our Group Exhibitions." Where Chandana had a view, "they are also given the space and freedom to express their creativity; we do not impose our thought on them but ofcourse we do stress a lot on new forms of expressions through their own talents."

This time the artists were Dhiren Sasmal, Chandana Khan, Ashok Ganguly, Tarun Chakraborty, Nirmala Pillai, Debjani Datta, Anannya Banerjee, Subrata Sen, Sujit Ghosh and the most senior artist in all of them Samir Aich (who couldn't make to this exhibition at Mumbai as he had other assignments in Kolkatta).

Pritish Nandi says about the exhibition, "I have been invited in many exhibitions and those shows were predictable, but I am really happy to visit here and finding new talents with a perfect blend of skills and flavors."

Among the other artists and celebs were Chiru Chakravarty with wife Rachna, Prithvi Soni, Daxa Khandwala, Rupali Madan, Piu Sarkar, Viren Shah, Shammi Kapoor's son Adiya Raj Kapoor with wife Priti Kapoor, Vijay Kalantari, Nirmal Jhaveri, Navin Gandharv and the owner of ArtDesh the Studio Bharat Patel with wife Renu Patel.
